Walking holidays: step, stretch and stroll
20 Mar 2020
Walking holidays can be enjoyed year-round, with no equipment or special clothing required! Walking makes for a great hobby that comes with numerous health benefits, and aside from the obvious fitness perks, the views you see and the memories you make along the way make for a lovely way to spend your days!
If you’re looking for an easy and enjoyable healthy habit to start 2018 with, there’s no doubt that walking is it; and Maguire’s Country Parks make the perfect base for you to start discovering routes and new places. Need more convincing? Here’s why you should give it a go and make walking more your New Year’s Resolution!
The verdict is unanimous amongst scientists and doctors: walking helps increase your life span. The University of Cambridge Professors conducted a study on over 330,000 individuals and found that walking for just 20 minutes a day cut the risk of premature death by a third; and Public Health England found that a ‘brisk’ walk of any length daily cut the risk by 15%. That’s lots more time for holidays!
Getting your blood pumping once a day improves your cardiovascular health, lessening the likelihood of you developing heart-related issues such as angina, heart attack, heart disease or stroke; as your muscles strengthen. Walking 30 minutes a day can also help to mediate your blood pressure to a healthier level (be that up or down) as it works your heart and veins at a reasonable level without putting undue strain on your body.
Walking, even just for a few minutes each day, is a natural mood-booster – and studies show that it improves your thoughts and feelings, by increasing serotonin levels. The light exercise your body gets and the distraction of new surroundings will make you feel happier within minutes.
Situated in some of the most beautiful countryside that the North East has to offer, Maguire’s Country Parks are the ideal base for your walking holiday.
