New Year, New You!

20 Mar 2020

We hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. If, like us, you have over indulged on the turkey, chocolates and mince pies, over the last two weeks, then fear not, because Maguires Country Parks can help you get back to a healthier you for 2016!

It is no secret that walking is one of the best things you can do for your health and with our parks being located in some of the most stunning countryside in the North East of England, they are the perfect location to pull on your boots and get hiking!

Not only can walking strengthen your heart, lower your risk of disease and prevent dementia, it can help you lose weight. You’ll burn around 75 calories simply by walking at 2mph for 30 minutes. Up your speed to 3mph and it’s 99 calories!

As if that wasn’t enough, walking boosts your levels of vitamin D and improves your mood! Studies show that a brisk walk is just as effective as antidepressants in mild to moderate cases of depression, releasing feel-good endorphins while reducing stress and anxiety.

If you have visited any of Maguires Country Parks you will know that we have some lovely winding walkways for you to explore, but that’s not all: the parks are set in the beautiful North East countryside: perfect for putting on your hiking boots and waterproofs and getting out into the fresh air.

From the breathtaking Roseberry Topping near Swainby Country Park to the villages around Newbus Grange; the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland coastline near Forget Me Not Country Park and The Lowry Trail in Berwick, home of Ord House, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Pack a picnic and some binoculars – there is an abundance of wildlife in the local area.

And the best thing about walking? It’s free! Here’s to getting outdoors, getting trim and feeling on top of the world!

Until next time,

The Maguire Family.
