How To Make Your Holiday More Eco-Friendly

Considering the environment is important and at Maguires Country Parks we strive to wherever possible. As a holiday homeowner there are many environmental swaps you can make while on holiday to protect the environment. So what are they?
It’s easy to follow the same habits and routines and forget the importance of protecting the world around us. There are more sustainable options out there than you might think that you can incorporate into your holiday to give some more thought to the environment.
At Maguires Country Parks we’ve put together a list of ten swaps you can make as a holiday homeowner to be more environmentally-conscious.
Are you heading off on a hike to explore the beautiful North East countryside? If so, you’ll definitely need a cold bottle of water to keep you hydrated!
Instead of picking up a plastic bottle of water from the shop, save yourself some money and the environment and take with you a reusable water bottle. This way, you’re keeping plastic out of landfill waste and have the ability to refill your bottle time and time again.
If you’re due a restock of your favourite breakfast ingredients and holiday snacks at the shops, take reusable grocery bags with you instead of paying 10p for a plastic bag at the till.
You don’t get much more sustainable than growing your own vegetables from the luxury of your holiday home. By doing so, you will also be saving on unnecessary use of plastic used in shops to package vegetables.
Why buy plastic bottles of soap when you can use bars of soap instead? Save on the plastic and choose the more sustainable option!
If you hadn’t already guessed, plastic is extremely harmful to the environment. When buying bottle drinks, it’s more sustainable to buy drinks in glass bottles as opposed to plastic.
Paper straws are a thing of the past! Make sure you pack some reliable metal straws with you when going on holiday so you can enjoy your favourite drinks.
Cling film is one of the worst plastics to use in the household because it is not recyclable or compostable so it ends up in landfill sites across the globe on a very large scale.
Instead of using cling film, swap over to tin foil because this is a material used for maintaining food freshness that can be put in the recycling bin.
An even better alternative to tin foil is beeswax wraps. Beeswax wraps are made from all-natural ingredients and can be used again and again and again to keep food delicious and fresh for picnics in the park or BBQ’s on your decking.
A nice and easy one, swap your plastic scrubbing brushes to wash the dishes for wooden scrubbing brushes.
Just like soap bars, you can make a positive change to the environment by using shampoo bars instead of bottled shampoo.
