Completely free, without the need to pre-book, Locomotion displays the highlights of the national collection of railway vehicles in the world’s first railway town. It is the perfect place to explore the local railway history and learn how the railways have changed our lives. 

Cafe Number One serves up a range of hot and cold dishes, sandwiches, snacks and children’s lunchboxes daily and you can discover an extensive range of railway gifts, books, posters, models and clothing in the museum’s gift shop.

Hall Hill Farm

Who doesn’t love cute animals? At Hall Hill Farm, there is the opportunity to feed lambs, and donkeys as well as hold rabbits, watch puppet shows and enjoy plenty of family time.

As well as learning how the farm works, adults and children will be able to interact with a wide range of farm animals. There is also a fun outdoor play area for kids with swings, slides and climbing frames and indoor play area for wet and cold days.

There is also a nine-hole adventure golf course if the little ones get bored of the playgrounds and animals.

Hardwick Park

Explore the great outdoors with family at Hardwick Park. Take in the natural beauty of the shimmering lake and surrounding woodland, with an abundance of wildlife to keep you company.

During your walk, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for an amazing range of habitats, sculptures and buildings that will be of interest. There are also multiple events hosted at the park throughout the year suitable for families.
