Best Fishing Spots in the North East & North Yorkshire

05 Aug 2022

The North East of England is home to many wonderful waterways and inviting places to encourage more people to get a taste for fishing. Our Maguires Country Parks in particular are situated close to some of the most beautiful fishing spots.

National Fishing Month is reaching more people than ever before this year to try and encourage the next generation of anglers to enjoy time by the water. Spending time outside fishing relaxes both the body and mind and is so much more than just catching fish.

Across our eight country parks in the regions of Northumberland, County Durham, and North Yorkshire; we guarantee to have some of the very best fishing locations close by for plenty of rod bending fishing action!

Here are the most relaxing locations for a spot of fishing in the North East.

County Durham

Durham offers a variety of still water and river fishing. The county boasts the opportunity to fish and spend time gazing at some of the most picturesque countryside there is.

Keep it local with resident fishing available at Hurworth Springs Country Park. Head out for the day with like-minded people and practice your hand at a catch or two.

High Coniscliffe features a lovely mixture of deep holding pools and gravelling runs and has an excellent stock of brown trout, grayling and chub. Alternatively head to Mansfield and Cleasby at the southern bank of the River Tees; it has plenty of wild brown trout, grayling, dace, chub, barbel and occasionally salmon and sea-trout.

Northumberland

Northumberland has some beautiful places to go fishing. From smaller streams to rivers and coasts, it is home to many game, river and coarse fishing spots.

The sparkling rivers of Northumberland National Park are home to superb game and coarse fishing. England’s premier salmon river is The River Tyne but sea trout is found in River Coquet and River Tweed.

Felton Fence Fisheries in Morpeth is a hidden gem – without a doubt! It is the perfect choice for a relaxing session that should see you get plenty of bites and fish on the bank. Enjoy four pieces of water to tackle: Badger Lake, Fence Lake, Mallard Lake, and Fox Lake.

North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire has a fantastic choice of places to try your hand at catching a fish or two.

Semerwater is the largest glacial lake in North Yorkshire and the ideal place for a spot of bream, roach, perk pike and wild trout fishing.

Another great place to fish is the Washburn Valley. Here the Fewston, Swinsty and Thruscross reservoirs offer fantastic opportunities for trout fishing in idyllic rural settings.
