Bamburgh Castle and the Northumberland Coast
A historic jewel in the North East crown, the world-famous Bamburgh Castle welcomes thousands of visitors each year.
Situated on the breath-taking Northumberland Coast, Bamburgh is a great day out for all the family, and it’s located close to Ord House and The Kaims.
A lot of the castle left standing today is a result of major restoration by Lord Armstrong in the Victorian Era, but the building has had a rich and varied history dating all the way back to Ango-Saxon times. Today, the castle has 14 rooms which are open to the public and more than 2,000 artefacts, including arms and armour, porcelain, furniture and artwork.
After visiting the historic castle, take a walk along the beach and marvel in its iconic views in all their glory. There’s so much to see and do along the Northumberland Coast – with over 30 miles of coastline at your fingertips to explore. There’s nothing better than fish and chips beside the sea before heading back to your holiday home to relax with a glass of wine and a good book.
Don’t forget there’s also a wealth of independent shops, restaurants, and cafes to delight you inland just a short drive away so be sure to visit the historic towns of Alnwick and Berwick – all within easy access of your Maguires Country Park of choice.
Durham Cathedral and historic Durham City
Just a stone’s throw away from Low Carrs Residential Park, history lovers can’t fail to be impressed by Durham City centre and its glorious Cathedral.
Durham’s cobbled streets are home to an array of eclectic shops with a wonderful mix of big brands and smaller independents. Take some time to search for bargains before visiting the wonderful Cathedral, home to relics of Saint Cuthbert and Venerable Bede, to name a few. Regular services and tours are on offer, and the Cathedral has a full event programme all year round to enjoy.
Did you know that in recent years, the Cathedral backdrop has featured in a number of big-budget films – including the Harry Potter franchise and Marvel’s Avengers, to name a few? A great day to share with the grandkids!
When in Durham, you could always head to Brown’s Rowing Boats on the riverbank, which has operated since the 1900’s – what better way to round off your day than by enjoying a leisurely row along the Wear – right in the heart of this breath-taking city?
Alnwick Garden

Enjoy tranquil walks across the 20–acre site, sit in a swinging bench surrounded by cherry blossoms, or explore the unusual plants housed within The Poison Garden – there’s so much to see and do you’ll be spoilt for choice. The Garden is situated close to the Alnwick Castle – so why not explore both?
Roseberry Topping
Popular with locals and tourists alike – Roseberry Topping is a stand-out landmark offering amazing views across North Yorkshire and Cleveland, and just a short drive away from Hurworth Springs, Newbus Grange and Swainby.
At 1,050 feet (320m), the topping can be enjoyed by all levels of fitness, and a short hike to the summit can be completed in around half an hour. Once you’ve taken on the challenge you can also enjoy a walk around the woods at the base of Roseberry, including Newton Woods – famous locally for its bluebells.
