Our Bucket List Spring Activities
18 Mar 2022
The sun has finally got his hat on, spring half-term is right around the corner and there’s a sense of excitement in the air as we start preparing to return to our park homes.
At Maguires, we’re jam-packed with spring activities for you and the children to enjoy and get outside in the fresh air (and away from a screen). You can really blow the cobwebs away and brush away the distant memory of winter as a family, friends, or just the two of you.
Here is our spring bucket list full of activities for you to enjoy this spring at your Maguires park home!
A stroll through Alnwick Gardens
If you are visiting The Kaims or Ord House, a must-see in the spring is the Alnwick Gardens, which has a beautiful display of Cherry Blossoms in its Cherry Orchard.
Explore Cragside’s grounds in Northumberland, which are famous for their flower display. Marvel at the Quarry Garden at Belsay Hall, with over 4,000 plant varieties to discover, thousands of seasonal blooms – you can even play in the garden’s water sculptures. See if you can find all of the rainbow colours in the spring garden!
Fruit picking and picnics
Spilmans Farm is a great place to get out in the spring sun and pick some fresh seasonal fruits. You can choose from a variety of fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
Put together a picnic basket with sandwiches as well as a blanket, find the perfect spot to lay down and enjoy some warm spring weather, delicious snacks, and your freshly picked berries.
The farm is only a 15-minute drive from Swaleside and a 25-minute drive from Swainby, so there’s really no reason not to visit!
Take a meander along the river
Newbus Grange is located only a stones throw from the River Tees and provides a wonderful opportunity for your family to take a relaxing walk along the river banks.
Keep a lookout for local wildlife like swans, herons and oyster catchers that can be spotted if you keep your eyes peeled and your footsteps quiet! It’s a great way to spend some peaceful time with the local ecosystems. You could even bring a picnic with you to enjoy under the sun. (Don’t forget your suncream and remember to pick up your litter after!)
A day at the zoo
The Northumberland Country Zoo is a personal favourite among many of the residents at Forget Me Not Country Park. We believe that you never get too old for a day at the zoo. Whether you prefer wild cats or reptiles, the Northumberland Country Zoo really does have them all!
This family-run zoo has 17 acres of land, a tractor museum, an outdoor play area, and a wide variety of animals, including meerkats and llamas; it’s the ideal family day out.
Exploring your park
Spring is a wonderful time of year to take advantage of the extra evening sunlight and make more memories. At Maguires Country Parks, we’re extremely lucky to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful local attractions, as spring brings a range of things to look forward to in the areas surrounding our parks in North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and County Durham.
