Fall in love with Northumberland this February

11 Feb 2022

Northumberland is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway – don’t believe us? Even The New York Times recommends a visit to Northumberland!

Of course, romance means different things to different people; for some, it’s sea and sunsets or a candle-lit dinner for two; for others, it’s a jam-packed trip with sightseeing and endless adventure – luckily Northumberland has something for everyone!

If you’re planning a romantic break with us at Ord House or The Kaims in the month of love, we’ve put together a list of our favourite things to do in Northumberland, perfect for a romantic getaway.

Stargazing

Stay out after sunset with a deck chair, a flask (nobody will know it’s secretly your favourite tipple) a wooly jumper and some binoculars and let the star-studded sky of Northumberland National Park steal your breath away! If you’re lucky you may spot the Northern Lights, they can be seen in the sky above Northumberland International Dark Sky Park. All of this from the comfort on the doorstep of your park home – heaven, right?

Let’s explore…

Calling all early risers! Pack your flask of tea and your bait box and take a stroll to Northumberland’s Sycamore Gap viewpoints to catch the sunrise over a Sleepy Northumberland. This peaceful stroll is a great way to learn about Northumberland National Park and its most famous feature, Hadrian’s Wall.

The Twice Brewed Inn, a bar famed for its home-brewed ales and hearty Northumberland sausages, is the starting and ending point for this short but sweet adventure.

Adventure into Newcastle

“Fancy a trip doon the toon?” Start your day with a romantic walk along the Quayside and have a pit stop at Quay Ingredient ‘a small coffee house underneath the big bridge for a spot of coffee and a traditional Geordie Full English.

Wander over the Swing Bridge to The River Brew Co. Take a seat and enjoy a craft beer or two while refuelling with lunch from the Hawker Market’s local street food vendors.

Or if a rooftop bar is more your scene, wrap yourself up and head to ABOVE, a brand new rooftop bar and restaurant for a birds-eye view over Newcastle.

Romantic dinner for two

It’s often said that the key to someone’s heart is through food, so what better way to show your other half you care in the month of love than by cooking a candlelit supper at home from one of Northumberland’s best romantic restaurants? Whether it’s a three-course meal at Restaurant Pine or a delicious afternoon tea at The Running Fox Bakery. There is plenty for everyone.

Whatever choice you choose, come to Maguires Country Parks for a romantic weekend and make this Valentine’s Day one to remember! Let us know what you get up to on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and drop us a follow whilst you’re there. We hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.
