Bamburgh beach isn’t just for summer!

28 Jan 2022

Where are the greatest beaches in Europe? Playa de los Muertos? Porto Côvo? Cala Violina? Think again! There are many beautiful beaches in the heart of Northern England – like the famous Bamburgh beach!

Bamburgh beach on the northeast coast in Northumberland is equally as beautiful in the winter as summer time; especially when the sun is shining, the skies are blue – and even better, it’s just a stone’s throw away from The Kaims Country Park!

Are you thinking of exploring the sandy shores of Bamburgh when you next visit The Kaims Country Park? Here’s a few of our favourite activities to try upon your visit.

Let’s beachcomb!

Beachcombing isn’t just a family favourite in summer time – in fact after a stormy sea has passed, you’ll find some interesting treasures hidden away in rock pools and coves. Feathers, shells, tide-sculpted stones, are all waiting to be discovered, and what’s more, you can even use your finds to create holiday home decor, such as a seashell wreath!

Watersports

Bamburgh beach is a popular spot for watersports. In fact, it’s the north’s very own haven for surfing at all times of the tide. Fancy giving it a go? Surfing lessons are available from Northside Surf School  throughout the Northumberland Coast, including Bamburgh!

They are open seven days a week, twelve months a year, and cater to all experience levels and ages. Surf’s up!

Bamburgh Castle

Before leaving Northumberland’s coastline, visiting the castle is a must, a breathtaking spot for the whole family to enjoy.

Bamburgh Castle has stood guard above the Northumberland coast since the 11th century and has been home to the Armstrong family since 1894. Accompanied with the dramatic sand dunes, there’s no question as to why it makes the perfect backdrop for many a Hollywood movie!

Here you’ll get a true feeling of the history beneath the grand walls. The Guards Keep has been transformed into the Armoury, which houses a collection of guns and armour from throughout history. Pretty neat, right?

After all that exploring, stop by the Clock Tower Tea Room, the perfect place to enjoy a well deserved cuppa and slice of cake.

Grabbing a bite to eat

After a full day of exploring the wonderful beach in Bamburgh, it’s time to fuel yourself up!

Bamburgh is home to a large number of eateries, from fine dining to quaint coffee shops to walker-friendly pubs – fit for even the fussiest of eaters and even your four legged friend! Because we don’t want them to miss out, do we!?
