There’s something so comforting about the aroma of something baking in the oven—especially when you’re tucked away in the peaceful surroundings of your holiday home or residential park home. As it’s World Baking Day today, it’s the perfect opportunity to indulge your sweet tooth (or savoury cravings) with a few simple, satisfying recipes.
Whether you’re an avid baker or just getting started, these six easy bakes are perfect for whipping up in a cosy holiday home or residential park home kitchen—no fancy gadgets required!
A timeless British favourite. Light, fluffy, and filled with jam and cream, it’s perfect for sharing over afternoon tea.
Ingredients:
200g self-raising flour
200g caster sugar
200g unsalted butter (softened)
4 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp milk
Strawberry jam & whipped cream (for filling)
Icing sugar (for dusting)
Method:
Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan).
Grease and line two 20cm cake tins.
Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, then add eggs one at a time.
Fold in flour, baking powder, and milk.
Divide mixture between tins and bake for 20–25 minutes.
Cool, then sandwich with jam and cream. Dust with icing sugar.

Zingy, moist, and incredibly easy—this loaf is a one-bowl wonder with a tangy citrus kick.
Ingredients:
175g self-raising flour
175g caster sugar
175g unsalted butter
2 eggs
Zest of 1 lemon
Juice of 1.5 lemons
100g icing sugar (for glaze)
Method:
Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a loaf tin.
Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs and zest.
Fold in flour and half the lemon juice.
Pour into tin and bake for 40–45 mins.
Mix icing sugar with remaining juice and drizzle over the warm cake.

Chewy, golden, and endlessly customisable. These oat bars are perfect for picnics or walking snacks.
Ingredients:
225g porridge oats
125g butter
125g light brown sugar
2–3 tbsp golden syrup
Optional: raisins, nuts, seeds, or chocolate chips
Method:
Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a square tin.
Melt butter, sugar, and syrup in a pan.
Stir in oats and any extras.
Press into tin and bake for 20–25 mins.

Fudgy, rich, and incredibly easy to make. No mixer, no mess—just pure chocolate joy.
Ingredients:
200g dark chocolate
150g butter
250g caster sugar
3 eggs
100g plain flour
30g cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
Method:
Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a baking tin.
Melt chocolate and butter together.
Stir in sugar, then beat in the eggs one at a time.
Add flour, cocoa, and vanilla.
Pour into tin and bake for 25–30 mins.
Quick, savoury, and delicious warm with a pat of butter—ideal for a light lunch or picnic in the park.
Ingredients:
225g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
55g butter
100g grated mature cheddar
150ml milk
1 tsp mustard powder (optional)

Method:
Preheat oven to 200°C. Line a tray.
Rub butter into flour and baking powder.
Stir in cheese and mustard powder.
Add milk gradually to form a dough.
Cut into rounds and bake for 12–15 mins.
No oven? No problem! These sweet, crunchy bars are a hit with kids and adults alike.
Ingredients:
200g dark or milk chocolate
100g butter
2 tbsp golden syrup
100g crushed digestive biscuits
50g mini marshmallows
50g dried fruit or nuts
Icing sugar (optional)
Method:
Melt chocolate, butter, and syrup together.
Stir in crushed biscuits, marshmallows, and extras.
Press into a lined tin and chill for 1–2 hours.
Cut into chunks and dust with icing sugar if desired.
